Where She Belongs [Danisnotonfire x Reader]

You've been living with Dan and Phil for five years already. Uni is finally over, and you suddenly remember that you have to move back with your parents again.

You start packing all your clothing into your suitcase when you see a figure appear at the door. "Hi, Dan," you say in a sorrowful mood.

"Hi, (y/n)," he replies, sitting down on the bed and looking up at you. "What's wrong?"

"I don't think I've told you this, but.. I have to move back."

"What? Why?" Dan seems shocked, making you laugh a little.

"I was only staying for, like, five years."

"You can't leave! I won't let you!"

"I'm sorry, Dan. My parents miss me. I miss them, too."

"Then... I'm going to visit them with you," he nods.

"What?" Now it's your turn to be shocked.

"I'll order a plane ticket and visit your parents with you," Dan says affirmatively.

"Dan, you're amazing," you throw your arms around his neck and kiss him.

"I can't just let you slip away, love," he smiles, wrapping his arms around your small waist. You lean your forehead against his, smiling softly at him.

"I should probably get back to packing now," you laugh, reluctantly pulling away.

"Fineee. I'll pack with you," Dan grins, grabbing a suitcase and filling it with clothes.

"When's the flight?" You ask.

"Whenever yours is."

"You stalker," you roll your eyes.

"An affectionate stalker," Dan winks, giving you a small kiss on the cheek before leaving the room.

This is going to be a long ride home, you think to yourself.

Once you and Dan get to the airport, the plane you're supposed to be on is already starting the boarding. You and Dan make a beeline to the boarding area, hurriedly getting through passport checks and other things. You finally board the plane and settle into your seat. Dan settles into the one next to you.

"Did you order this one because I'm sitting next to it?" You roll your eyes playfully.

"Actually, I asked the lady who was sitting here if we could switch seats."

"That's so sweet of you." You say, embarrassed by your own sarcasm.

"Thanks, love," Dan grins.

Soon, the plane takes off, and you find yourself slowly drifting off. You gently rest your head on Dan's shoulder and close your eyes.

"(Y/n)," you hear. "Wake up."

"Hmm?" You mumble, opening your eyes.

"We're here." Dan smiles at you.

You and Dan get off the plane, grab your luggage, and head to the greeting area, where you spot your parents.

"They're here. Um, I don't know how they'll react to you, though," you hesitate.

"Don't worry about me," Dan kisses your cheek sneakily then whispers, "I'll see you later."

You nod and hurry off. Your mother sees you first and comes over to greet you.

"Mom!" You embrace her tightly. You notice that she looks slightly older; her hair is a bit whiter and her features aren't as fresh as they used to be.

"(Y/n), we've missed you so much," your mom says, tears running down her face.

"I've missed you too," you smile weakly.

"Come on, let's go home." Your dad begins to pull your suitcase away.

"Wait."

Your parents both turn around. "What's wrong, honey?"

"There's.. Someone I want you to meet." At that moment, Dan walks in shyly and waves.

"Who is this?" Your mom says, shocked.

"Mom, Dad, this is Dan. Dan, these are my parents," you introduce one another.

"Hello, Mr. and Mrs. (Y/L/N)," Dan politely smiles at them.

Both of your parents seem a bit surprised. Finally, your mother asks, "Is this... Are you.. Dating?"

"I guess, I mean-- you could say that." You stutter.

"For... How long?" Your dad furrows his brows.

"About.. Five years, give or take?"

"F-Five years?" Your parents ask in unison.

"Is there a problem?" You raise an eyebrow, your muscles tensing.

"(Y/n), it's fine. You and your family can work this out, and I'll do whatever I can to help... Even if it means leaving." Dan places his hand on your shoulder, and your muscles relax.

"Mr. Howell, I don't think it'll be necessary for you to leave!" Your mom says. "Besides, (y/n) is growing up. If you guys are ready for this relationship, then.. I support you two."

"Wait, really?" You and Dan stare at your mom.

"Yes, if it makes you happy." Your mom replies, giving you a warm smile.

"It does! Thank you so much, mom," you kiss your mom on the cheek.

"Hey, don't forget me!" Your father pouts, making Dan chuckle a bit. You hurriedly give your dad a tight squeeze, too.

"Wait, but.. Will we.. Are we going to have a long distance relationship?" You look at your parents sadly.

"Of course not! You.. You can live with Dan, as long as the two of you come back every year."

"Are you serious?" Your eyes light up.

"Definitely! You're old enough. We just want you to do whatever makes you happy."

"Oh my god, thank you!" You hug your parents tightly.

"Thank you so much, Mr. And Mrs. (Y/L/N)." Dan smiles kindly.

"You're very welcome, Dan," your dad replies, grinning.

"Um, I'd also like to do something that I hope will make you happy," Dan looks at you, and you raise an eyebrow.

"What do you mean?"

Dan takes your hands in his then kneels down. "(Y/n)... So many things come to mind when I hear your name. My heart races every time I see you. But.. Let's start from the beginning.
"When we first met, the thought of us together was crazy and impossible. I tried to hide my feelings and did successfully... yet painfully. We became closer over time and my feelings for you only strengthened. Then one ordinary day turned extrordinary when I confessed that I had feelings for you. You told me how you felt and... We kissed. You made me feel like everything was going to be all right. You filled the empty spot in my heart. I love you so much more than just to the moon and back. I only have one question that I want to ask you."

At this time, there are a lot of other people watching you and Dan, including your parents. "Ask me anything," you smile, your heart racing.

You inhale sharply as Dan pulls out a beautiful box. Then, opening it, he looks into your eyes and asks, "Will you marry me?"

"Yes... Yes. I will." You help Dan up and then kiss him, earning a round of applause from the crowd. When you pull away, you see your parents smiling and nodding at you.

"I love you," you whisper to Dan.

"I love you, too," Dan beams cheekily, his dimples visible at the sides of his soft cheeks.

You start to pull back, then remember that you don't have anything to hurry off for. You don't need Superman to save you from uni, or a dorm to stay in. You already know where you belong. You belong here, in the arms of your own hero, Dan Howell.
